Harry, later known as George, was born on October 8th 1904 at Fittleton. He appears in the 1911 census.

He volunteered for Royal Navy on 14th June 1921 signing up for 12 years.
He commenced service on 8th October (his 17th birthday) as a Boy 2nd class, in HMS “Impregnable”
On entry he was 5’6” tall, chest 35”, dk brown hair, blue eyes, sallow complexion.
On 22nd January 1934 he signed up ‘to complete time for pension.

George met Alice Rosling (nee Davis) in Portsmouth; they were unable to marry because Alice had been married before, but separated from her husband.
David George was born on 5th April 1933 in Portsmouth.
Mollie Patricia was born on 29th February 1936 in Portsmouth
Following Alice’s divorce in June 1936, she and Harry George were married in Portsmouth Register Office on 23rd July 1936

HMS Collingwood class - Harry fifth frpm left

After he left the navy Harry worked for the Admiralty as a civilian radar mechanic, lastly at HMS Dryad at Southwick.
During this period he was heavily involved in the Electrical Trades Union, where he was local Branch Secretary. He was elected to Portsmouth City Council as the Labour councillor for Farlington, 1960-63 (?)
