Memory Tests

Here are a number of photos containing people who have not been identified for certain - or at all.

If you know who they are, or just have a rough idea, why not email me so I can put them on their appropriate page.

If you can come up with captions or comments that would be a bonus.

Note: Many of these seem to be mysteries no more, thanks to Kathleen’s brilliant recollections. I have added her emailed comments in red.

Mystery 2

I’m pretty sure these are Jim and Aileen, but could Jim confirm perhaps?

From Jim: I would say that is definitely Aileen, but I am not sure if I am the other child. Something makes me say it is not, but I could be wrong.
I have never seen the photo before to my knowledege, but when I get my hands on the album currently with Hilary, I might turn up a duplicate. Have to wait and see. I wonder where it was taken ?

Aileen and Peter, I think

Yes, it’s Pete - Jinny

========================================================================

Mystery 3

Is it Gran holding the child? It looks like Aunty Jean on the right, but who are the others?

Kate018

Mystery 4

Any clue as to who these comedians are?.

Kate019

Yes, Gran holding Peter, and Tom in front of Aunt Nell.  Are the ones on the left Ruth and Tom?

...Isn't it Jess on the left with Ruth - Jinny

At Cliff End, summer of 1934.  Think the ladies are Jean and Dot, and the man on the right Tom ( at that time Ruth's boy friend. The child is me.

Correction: it is Jesse on the left of course.

Jim006

Mystery 13

This imposing lady - possibly an Alexander?

From Jim: this is the photo I carefully extracted from my mothers album, very faded and yellowed with age. On the reverse in my mother's writing is "Mother at the age of 26", which would make her Edith Mary Lawes, taken in 1903 around the date of her marriage to Albert Edward Ings. Just about legible on the reverse is - The Royal Central Photo Company, Bournemouth and other wording indicating that the company was used by HRH The Prince of (unreadable) and other members of the Royal family. Sounds like quite a classy establishment

Jim013

Mystery 14

One of Jim’s photos, but of whom?

Mum and Anne at Cliff End. - Kathleen
That’ll be Aunt Lily to the rest of us.

Jim029

Dot and Betty.

Now on Betty’s page

========================================================================

Jim030

Mystery 19

Noted by Aunt Cis as ‘Ted’s cousin Rosalie Alexander. If so, this would probably be Blanche Rosalie Alexander, born 1909, daughter of Granny’s brother George.

=======================================================================

Jim032

Mystery 20

Another of Cis’s. I think its Mollie, but perhaps she could confirm that?

Yes, Mollie

Jim033

Mystery 21

Love the quiff - but who is it?

Cousin Beryl?

I'm pretty sure the photo of the baby is me though I have never seen it before
but compared with other baby photo's they look similar. - Beryl

Now on Beryl’s page

========================================================================

Mystery 22

Who’s this ?

Jim034

Aileen.

Now on Aileen’s page

Later information suggests this is Aileen, 18 months, as it seems to be one that Aunty Cis had, and is now with Aubrey.

Mystery 23

We know these blurred ladies are the Jacobs sisters, but when and where was the occasion?

aunts colour

From Beryl: about the mystery photo of the Jacobs sisters, this was at my wedding 28th March 1959, taken by Uncle Jess in the early days of colour photography for the masses. I think this was the last time they were all together in one place.

Mystery 24

Jim sent this group photo, but neither of us can recognise any of the characters. Can anyone help with the people or the possible occasion?,

Jim041

From Chris: Don't know who, where or why but I think that the uniformed person is wearing a Royal Engineers badge therefore Army. (RAF didn't have collar dogs as far as I know) If this is the case then it would be post '62-3. Number 2 dress was issued about then to replace the BD (which I prefered as it was easier to iron and in Jeermany, get it tailored for a couple of packet's of Senior's..........

========================================================================================================

Mystery 25

Barbara sent this, with the suggestion that the man on the right might be Uncle Jesse. Anyone care to confirm or correct this assumption?
I don’t think they’re behind barbed wire, I think the photo has been badly creased!
But what’s the guy on the left about to do with that cane?
